Caring for your Jewelry
Tips on how to care for and clean your jewelry.

Storing

Jewelry Cases

It is worth the expense of buying a good quality jewelry case to store all of you precious jewelry.  Things to look for in a jewelry case are:

  1. Sturdy overall construction.  Even though the case may spend most of its time in a cupboard or on the dresser, the simple act of opening and closing the box to remove or replace a piece will tell over time.

  2. The interior of the box or case should be lined with a soft felt like material.  This helps keep each item in it place, and stops pieces from rubbing and scratching each other.

  3. Ideally, the case should have divided compartments for stroring different types of jewelry.  This also helps to organize the collection, and keeps everything in its place.

Stauer offers a range of jewelry cases including the item shown below, which is a matching set of home storage case and travel bag:

Cleaning

Diamonds

Caring for your Diamond Jewelry

  1. Diamonds set in Karat-gold or sterling silver can be worn everyday.

  2. Even though diamonds are harder than anything else, it is still wise to take precautions, such as removing jewelry when doing heavy work to prevent damage to the setting or the stones (even a diamond can chip if hit the right way).  Even more important is avoiding damage to the setting that could cause a stone to be lost.

  3. Remove your jewelry before showering or washing you hands as soap can leave a sparkle-dimming film. Similarly, remove jewelry when applying makeup and face/body powder, as they can dull its shine.

  4. Avoid touching your diamond stones; the natural oils on your fingers can leave a film that dulls the brilliance.

  5. Have your jewelry checked by a jeweler regularly. He will check for loose settings and professionally clean the jewelry as well.

Cleaning Your Diamond Jewelry

Diamonds will quickly loose their sparkle and brilliance if they are not kept clean. All jewelry loses its beauty if soap, hand cream, dirt and body oils collect and solidify on it. The best way to clean your CZ jewelry is to dip it in brand-name liquid jewelry cleaner. For better cleaning, use an ultrasonic cleaner with cleaning solution. Please follow manufacturer's instructions. In between cleanups, polish with a chamois cloth or cotton towel.  If you use am ultrasonic cleaner, make sure that the setting is in good condition before placing the item in the cleaner - any loose stones will be shaken off the setting.

Cubic Zirconia

Caring for Your Cubic Zirconia Jewelry

  1. Cubic Zirconia that is set in Karat-gold or sterling silver can be worn everyday.

  2. While almost as hard as diamond, CZ is more brittle. So take precautions, such as removing CZ jewelry when doing heavy work. (Even a diamond can chip if hit the right way.)

  3. Remove your CZ jewelry before showering or cleaning, because soap can leave a sparkle-dimming film. Similarly, remove jewelry when applying makeup and face/body powder, as they can dull its shine.

  4. Avoid touching your cubic Zirconia stones; the natural oils on your fingers can leave a film that dulls the brilliance.

  5. Have your jewelry checked by a jeweler regularly. He will check for loose settings and professionally clean the jewelry as well.

Cleaning Your CZ Jewelry

The more you clean your CZ jewelry the more spectacular it will look.
